The Old School Way

When I first started writing, I was just a kid. I wrote all my stories and poems down in notebooks. Once I even filled up five five subject notebooks with a story that my friends, to this day, will still call me up and ask to read. Notebooks and pens were the ultimate gift for me. Christmas, birthdays and any other occasion in which a gift was to be given, my family knew that either of the two would be perfect for me.
Then one day I came home from school and learned that my mom had purchased a PC. Notebooks continued to pile up and clutter my room, but I was in love with the ease the keyboard provided me with it's oh so special backspace key and the cut and paste functions that allowed me to rearrange a scene without rewriting the paragraphs entirely. Since that day all my stories have been written and saved on computers, though I would never even dream of constructing a poem on Word (Way too intimate for technology).
However, I've been feeling a bit nostalgic lately. No doubt that has something to do with being published for the first time at the end of last month. I've been thinking about how I started writing and how good it made me feel to steal away with my characters and bring them to life in pretty notebooks, using fancy pens and pencils with colorful heart shaped erasers stuck on the end. I miss rubbing my index and middle fingers together after a long session and feeling that tingling soreness of my writer's bump. I could probably reminisce about this all day, but I'm going to stop here and crack open my new notebook because the next story I write will be done the old school way.
